Thug rampages drive up fears

Another weekend of violence has left some North End residents scared and ready to get out of the neighbourhood.

A group of thugs are accused of fatally stabbing 24-year-old Joseph Hall near the intersection of Aikins Street and Alfred Avenue and robbing and assaulting at least seven others Friday night.

Car seized for street racing

Police said two vehicles were travelling at high speeds in the southbound lanes of McPhillips Street.

Jail boy’s attacker 30 months, court told

A Winnipeg man guilty of beating a 15-year-old boy who brought a machete to Kelvin High School — breaking his jaw — should go to prison for 30 months, a court was told.

Seif Ali, 21, was convicted of aggravated assault and uttering threats following a trial earlier this year.

Girl sexually assaulted in downtown mall

City police have released a composite sketch of a male who allegedly sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl at a downtown Winnipeg mall earlier this month.

Police said the girl met the suspect and other males, who are all strangers to her, at Portage Place Shopping Centre on June 8 at 6:45 p.m.

Teen shot in city’s North End

Police are investigating another shooting in the city’s North End.

Winnipeg police were called to a local hospital about 3:30 a.m. Saturday after a 16-year-old male arrived there suffering from a gunshot wound to his midsection.

Trio arrested for robbery spree

Winnipeg police have three males in custody in connection with five armed robberies in the downtown and North End areas earlier this year.

Police said the males stole cash and cigarettes during four of the five hold-ups at gas bars and convenience stores between April 23 and May 6.
