While it looks as though the police have stopped using encrypted communication. So the police are back on the radio scanner once again! For how long? I don't know.

For those who have asked about the Fire and Paramedic stream. The scanner will still stream the Fire Department and the Paramedic audio feed from the scanner. Only the police will be missing. So for those who want to listen to these streams they will continue to be broadcasted. If the stream goes down please use the contact form to let me know it is down.

Winnipeg Police Gone To Encrypted Radios

WinnipegTheft has been streaming a live feed of the Winnipeg Police Scanner to it's listeners for approximately 5 years. As of yesterday the audio stream came to an end. The Winnipeg Police have switched their radios over to encrypted radio communications. The police will not be heard on the scanner anymore. It's not possible to listen to encrypted radio signals. For now we can still listen to the Fire Department and the Ambulance service. Other radio feeds (cities) may be added in the future. Stay tuned for updates.

Well, I found out how the script kiddy was getting in and being a bother to WinnipegTheft! This hack was never directed toward WinnipegTheft directly. They just were scanning for sites with a specific program or plug-in installed. They were getting in with a plug-in I used called PhpMyAdmin. This is the code that compromised my server. (if your interested)

The one thing that is interesting is that most hackers are not malicious and will not delete anything. This kid deleted everything (he was not nice, just a pest). But of course I have backups. I think it is all good now. The punk never had access to passwords so no need to worry. Chalk this one up as a good learning experience and backup your data.

WinnipegTheft Down – Site Hacked

Well the site has been hacked 2 times now. It must be a script kiddie doing it. I am trying to figure out how they are getting in. So things might be up and down here in the short term. They get in and delete and change things as you have seen. Sorry about the down time. This should be a good reminder to all of you out there that do not have a backup of your information that is valuable to you. New Scanner Has Been Delivered

For those of you that do not know, WinnipegTheft is replacing the current aging scanner with a new improved scanner. The scanner has just being deliverd today!

Scanner Listening Problems?

After you enter the correct password the player will auto start. If the pause button is showing then the scanner is playing. If you think the scanner is still not working, please join the chat box and ask if the scanner is working or go to the forum and look for the answer. The quickest way to get the scanner playing on your computer will be to ask for help on the chat box. If absolutely nobody can hear the scanner then email me at scanner@winnipeg.canadatheft.com

Site Upgrade

The website is going to be upgraded. I hope to have the majority of this implemented in the next few days. There might be times when the site is unavailable or acting funny. 1 Year After Car Thief Killed His 2nd Victim

I received this email today. As some of you may remember a year ago tomorrow, December 11 2009, my friends’ father was killed by two chronic car thieves driving a stolen hummer. They ran a stop sign and smashed into him going 94 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, he was 47 and died in hospital due to massive internal injuries. The car thief pleaded guilty in June 2008 to being one of seven youths inside a stolen Silverado that was racing a stolen SUV carrying seven other teens down Portage Avenue. The SUV ended up slamming into a cab, killing driver Antonio Lanzellotti and seriously injuring a passenger. He was given 72 days of time in custody, plus two years of supervised probation, which included a curfew and not being in a car without permission. Winnipeg police have classified the man as a Level 4 offender in the Winnipeg Auto Theft Suppression Strategy, the maximum designation available, and means he is under frequent police supervision. However, he was not required to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet. A petition has been started a few weeks ago calling on the province to ensure that all chronic car thieves have their court orders enforced and that all breaches are reported to police and vigorously prosecuted. There are more than 1400 signatures on the paper copy, which I will be bringing around shortly, there is also an online version at http://www.PetitionOnline.com/carthft3/ .
