I thought all these mobilizers that are mandatory from a certain year vehicle and up were to prevent this?

What a bullshit scam that is…..

Any one with a ounce of brains knows a aftermarket immobilizer system is spliced into the existing harness of the vehicle it’s installed in, and is so easily bypassed by anyone who isn’t colour blind. In fact I watched someone who never encountered one bypass a immoibilizer installed by a MPI certified installer in less then 3 minutes. In the middle of the nite a car thief in a dark allyway has all the time in the world to work towards his goal, these are a joke.
In my humble opinion the only real immobilizer is one that is built into the engine control unit of the vehicle, because they cannot bypass circutry built onto a silicon chip in the vehicle ECM.

The problem Bareback, is that most OEM immobilizers fail. GM passlock 2 equipped vehicles are on MPI’s MAR list. So are newer Hondas. In fact, a good majority of cars can easily be stolen with a flat screwdriver and a pair of Vice Grips, despite having factory immobilizers. Although properly embedded in the PCM, they all have some type of flaw.

With the right technique, a vehicle with factory immobilizer is stolen in under 30 seconds.

MPI immobilizers as ridiculously easy as they are to override, require a car thief to spend too much time in the car. For now. It’s only a matter of time before they figure out a quick way to plug in a homemade device into the MPI device to override that.

About the only thing the car thief won’t bother with is the good old fashioned Club. Have to carry bolt cutters to cut the steering wheel. Too bulky to run around with.
