Manitoba Public Insurance has added another 100 models to its list of vehicles that require mandatory immobilizers, but the insurer’s CEO says no more vehicles are likely to be added in the foreseeable future.

Ahhhh, well played MPI, well played. Change the policy to no longer insure motorists against attempted thefts on approved Immobilizer equipped vehicles because they “can’t be stolen”… Learn that they in fact CAN still be stolen…. Then increase the list of vehicles that need them installed. Way to weasel your way out of paying insurance premiums once again.

Only a matter of time before word really gets out in the youth center on how to bypass MPI’s “unstealable” cars.

You can’t bypass immobilizers……there setup for 3 pass’s. One being the fuel pump second is the ignition “which has 3 rubber rings…and when one is cut cuts ALL power to the vehicle”……so how a car-thief will get out alll the wireing that takes about 3Hrs to install..is beyond me. I don’t care for immobilizer’s but I do work with them.

Also…if a vehicle is stolen with an approved immobilizer….its due to the fact, THAT….who ever installed the system is at fault….it just has to be done correctly. I see 18 stolen vehicles a day…not one came in that was stolen with an immobilizer and a tampered iginition…the only theft with approved immobilizer that i’ve seen….was cause they vehicle was stolen with KEY FOB

I agree Jay204, immobilizers are effective. I chose to install an MPI immobilizer in my 91 Ford Escort. Ended up having to scrap the car. Kept frying ignition switches. MPI said it’s not their problem, go see the place who installed it. I go to thenm and they tell me it’s not their problem because it isn’t a defective immobilizer, it’s an electrical problem. I take it to another mechanic who puts in three different ignition switches and they keep blowing. He tells me it’s caused by the immobilizer. Well I can assure everyone the car will not be stolen, because right now it’s on its way to china in tiny little metal peices to be recycled.
One more reasonon my list for leaving this province.

Well since being forced to fit an immobiliser we have had nothing but trouble with our jeep. Frequently appears to be dead then some minutes later all is well. CAA wont come out anymore as they cannot find fault. Canadian Tire say nothing wrong with car.
Why must we suffer because courts wont do anything with thieves?

The IDEA is a good one. The real problem is they are using cheap Chinese ones (Mastergard being one of the brands) AND some of the shops installing them probably can’t wipe their own rear properly…

I had an Immobilizer installed at PHAT RIDE on Madison, Inept rude people there the receptionist was taking personal cell phone calls while there were 4 people waiting behind me, by the way I Went and had my car serviced just before to prove there were no problems with the car. Since the install, the electrical system fails and now it appears the alternator is gone. Took it back there and they insist its not their fault. I had to get it towed to CAA (they are at least accomodating and will listen to you), and they are going over PHAT RIDES insallation to see what’s wrong.
