Agency left girl with mother accused of murdering her dadLindor Reynolds, Winnipeg Free Press
A 14-year-old girl hanged herself Tuesday morning in the small northern community of Berens River, committing suicide shortly before her mother was due in court to face charges of murdering the teen’s father.
Full Story Here…

There are a lot of young people in this community. They move from house to house, from aunt to uncle,” says Chief George Kemp. “It’s not a situation that works very well.”
Really? Being addicted to alcohol and having no hope for ANY kind of future isn’t working? Well why not? What the heck are you doing about it Chief? Maybe you could just continue blaming the Canadian Government for all your problems, and asking for more money, and crying the blues while your children suffer till death is the only release. Is that Harsh? Get over it and start helping these people instead of holding them back. It’s time for a change.
Nice coment, however it really lacks substance when you throw the addicted to alcohol factor in, plenty of Aboriginals don’t drink at all, although if all you comment is on the SMALL majority on Main an in other places well, then that is why people like you won’t be taken serious.
Again I liked where you’re going but it’s a tad tasteless…
Kyle, it may be tasteless, but that doesn’t change the reality of life in many northern communities (remember, we’re not talking about Winnipeg here).
Unfortunately many of these communities have serious drug and alcohol problems that need to be addressed immediately and by the people who live in them, not by any level of government.
Until the young people in northern communities can have something to look forward to, such as active employment in their communities, the alcohol, drug and suicide problems will only get worse.
