PROVINCIAL JUSTICE REVIEWS UNDERWAY
Manitoba Justice reports an operational review of the East St.
Paul Police Department and a review of the province’s policy on
appointing independent prosecutors have commenced and will be
completed by the end of December.
The RCMP, with assistance from the Brandon Police Service, will
lead the East St. Paul police review.
The comprehensive review of the East St. Paul Police Department
will examine:
· the structure of the East St. Paul police service
including patrol and investigative units,
· accountability and disciplinary mechanisms,
· training and supervision standards,
· hiring standards,
· administrative policy manuals and currency,
· operational policy manuals and currency, and
· other operational matters the RCMP considers relevant.
Retired justice Ruth Krindle will review the province’s
independent prosecutor policy. The review will compare the policy
to similar policies on independent counsels in other provinces,
identify any gaps in the policy and make suggestions as
appropriate to improve the policy.
Results of both reviews will be made public upon their
completion.
Details of the public inquiry into the investigation and
prosecution, including services to victims, of the Harvey-Zenk
case will be announced by the end of December.
